Theme Descriptions

Web Express includes eleven themes built around the CU Boulder brand. They follow the brand standards for CU Boulder websites, including banner design, color usage, proper footer elements and correct use of seals and logos. In addition, the themes meet accessibility standards for people with disabilities.

Most themes are customizable, allowing some adjustments to the design and layout of site content. Most of the themes allow you to use a background image of your own choosing. Site owners and site editors with the configuration manager add-on role may change and configure the site theme.

Spirit (Default Theme)

The Spirit theme features a main navigation bar that is wide and white, with each link in the bar set in its own small box. A dark gray bar edges the top of the navigation, and a drop shadow sets off the bottom. This combination of visual elements adds emphasis to your main navigation. This theme will support a background image.

Ivory

The Ivory theme features a light gray main navigation bar set off with a drop-shadow. A light gray bar edges the footer region. In the boxed layout style, a drop-shadow sets off both sides of the site content. Banner options are black or white. This theme will support a background image.

Layers

The Layers theme features a dark gray banner with an inset black navigation bar and a light gray page background. The black footer region is inset in the page’s dark gray bottom. This theme will support a background image.

Minimal

Minimal is a sleek white theme. The white banner flows seamlessly into the navigation bar which is set off with a light gray line. In the boxed layout style, a drop-shadow sets off both sides of the site content. The theme will support a background image.

Modern

Modern is a sleek dark theme. The banner can be black or white. A thick gold line edges the navigation bar and the footer region. Rise

The Rise theme can have a dark or light banner. The main page content appears in a white box with a faint shadow along the bottom edge. This theme does not support a background image.

Shadow

The Shadow theme features a dramatic gradient gray page background upon which the site content seems to float. A drop-shadow surrounds all four sides of the entire site; the layout style is always boxed. This theme will support a background image.

Simple

The Simple theme features a dark navigation bar that is set apart from both the banner and the content region. Highlight

The Highlight theme features a main navigation bar that is light gray and a dramatic black page title background which emphasizes the title of each page and adds good visual balance with the black page footer. A thin gold line runs across the top of the page and along the top of the footer region. This theme will support a background image.

Tradition

The tradition theme gives a feeling that is both very sleek and very calm. Page titles (which appear on sub-pages) have a light gray background which adds a subtle emphasis to the page. This theme will support a background image.
