Related Articles Block

To increase visibility of related content on your site, you may recommend additional content to your users with the related article block. This block is available when you enable the News and Articles bundle. There are two blocks that have unique displays either related articles grid block or related articles column block. 

The related article block is configured to use the article categories and tags to pull in the most recent related articles.

The block filters content based on 3 queries in an attempt to end up with the best results. 
  • are there any articles that have the same categories and tags, 
  • are there any articles that have the same categories (categories are weighted more important than tags),
  • are there any articles that have the same tags the more terms that are in common with the viewed article are seen as more related,

Note: you must enable the News and Articles bundle to use this feature.

Add Related Articles Block via Context

  1. Go to the Express toolbar and select Structure.
  2. Select Context from the list of options.
  3. Click + Add to create a new context.

Configure the Context

  1. Name (required): the name must be all lowercase and contain no spaces.
  2. Condition: to add a related articles block to all article content select Node type and check the box next to Article.
  3. Reaction: select Blocks
    1. Expand the CU Related Articles link in the far right column of block types. 
    2. Check the box next to the Related Articles Column or Related Articles Grid block.
    3. Click + Add  to add the block to a layout region. 

      Tip: The Content Bottom region is reserved for the Related Articles Block. The Related Articles Block will appear after the article contents and above the articles categories and tags.     

  4. Click Save.

Add Related Articles Block via Edit Layout

Note: you must enable the Advanced Layout bundle to place the Related Articles blocks via Edit Layouts.

  1. Click on the Edit Layout tab below the article title.
  2. Scroll down and find the Content Region to which you want to add a block.
  3. Choose Block Wrapper Block from the Add new block select menu.
  4. Configure the fields in the block.
    1. Label: is a name used to uniquely identify the block
    2. Block: Click the drop-down arrow to select either the Related Articles Column or Related Articles Grid block
  5. Click Create block.
  6. Click Update Layout.

Tip: The Inner Content Bottom region is reserved for the Related Articles Block. The Related Articles Block will appear after the article contents and above the articles categories and tags.
